New Ventures are classified as trucking companies that have been in business for less than 2 years, even if the owner has many years driving under his belt. When you are starting up your company, it can be tricky and confusing trying to figure out all of the regulation and compliance with the FMCSA, CSA & DOT that you must comply with. Trucking Insurance Group has crafted a New Venture Guide to help inform, guide and keep track of everything you need to get compliant, insured & on the road. Truly, we want to see every motor carrier prosper. We have crafted these programs and guides in an attempt to simplify the insurance process and reduce the burden it places on motor carriers.

New Ventures
IFTA Tax Reporting
For-hire interstate motor carriers MUST file quarterly mileage reports under the International Fuel Tax Agreement. This is intended to simplify the reporting of fuel use for motor carriers that operate in more than one state.
Driver Qualification File
There are multiple qualifications a driver must meet in order to operate a commercial vehicle. This includes being at least 21, be able to speak English, and have a Commercial Drivers License issued to them by their home state.
You are required to perform pre & post trip inspections, and keep records of these inspections for every truck you operate. A record of inspections, repairs and maintenance must be kept in order to stay compliant. We have a template that you can use for your operation.
Vehicle Maintenance
DOT Drug Testing
Drug Testing is required under FMCSA & DOT Regulation. The test must be random, or immediately after an accident or loss occurs. We have programs we recommend that other motor carriers have used and enjoyed, however, the choice is yours.
Your handbook will outline important procedures, such as a Safety Program, Maintenance Program, Pre-hire requirements, Drug Testing and much more. It is important to have these policies & procedures in place. It is also a violation to not have a safety program in place.
Company Handbook
IRP (Apportioned Plates)
This is registration for an Apportioned Plate that is required for motor carriers that are operating in more than one state. This is an important step for interstate motor carriers. You will be put out of service for an issue with apportioned plates, which is costly in the long run.
Pay-Per-Mile Insurance
This new insurance program allows carriers with less than two years in business to start slow and avoid the stress of getting loads just to pay your high insurance premiums. It was designed to help new commercial trucking operations simplify and manage their actual insurance cost based on miles driven. If you don't drive, you don't pay!
