MCS-150

The MCS-150, or Motor Carrier Identification Report, is a form required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for motor carriers and other registrants to update their existing U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) number company record

An MCS 90 endorsement for motor carriers provides assurance that you are fiscally able to carry the weight of liability in the case of an accident.

In 1980, the Federal Motor Carrier Act went into effect. This act required motor carriers engaging in for-hire commerce to show proof they had financial protection equal to or greater than the minimums in each state, which led to the creation of the MCS 90.

MC-5889

A Form E filing certifies that your Liability insurance complies with the state's financial responsibility laws. Form E is submitted to the department of your business's home state that regulates intrastate trucking.

State and federal filings, also called financial proof of responsibility. An insurance filing is a guarantee to the government that you have sufficient truck insurance protection to meet their financial responsibility requirements. Once your authority has been filed, we can take care of the rest.

Federal Filings

We offer federal filings for trucking businesses that engage in:

  • Interstate trucking

  • Hauling hazardous cargo (placard)

  • For-hire trucking (common, contract)

  • For-hire passenger transportation

As an example, you are required to have a federal filing if you are a motor carrier doing long haul trucking, regional trucking, or if you are a specialist. For-hire truckers hauling nonexempt commodities across the state line must also carry a federal filing. The filings required for these types of businesses are the BMC-34 filing and the BMC-32 form.
Federal filings are not required for businesses that never cross the state line or engage intrastate trucking.

Sectors That Do Not Require Federal or State Filings

The following are considered unregulated trucking sectors that do not require a federal or state registration.

  • Private carriers hauling their own goods, such as manufacturers, farming and retail operations.

  • Owner-operators hauling under someone else’s authority, such as a truck owner leased on to a motor carrier.
